Recommended sweets in Kyoto

This is an introduction to sweets that you will want to buy when you go to Kyoto.

阿闍梨餅 満月 Ajari Mochi

Ajari Mochi from a Japanese confectionery shop in Kyoto called “Ajari Mochi Honpo Kyo Kashitsukasa Full Moon”. It was invented and released in 1922. The slightly Castella-flavored mochi skin and exquisitely sweet bean paste are delicious. Moreover, the amount of red bean paste is just right, and I eat one. Azuki beans called Tamba Dainagon are used.

It’s so popular that even souvenir shops in Kyoto Station make a line. Moreover, you can get it from 1 piece (119 yen). When I look at it, most people say, “10!” Or “30 pieces!” That’s what you’re buying.

There is also a cafe in the main store.

There is a cafe in the main store, and you can eat freshly made food. The hardness of Ajiri mochi changes over time. I like the slightly harder fabric I put for a day.

The original Yatsuhashi Nishio Tamechu Shoten’s

When I say Yatsuhashi, I think the thin grilled here is the most delicious.

There was an uncle who invited me a little like a push, and I was a little surprised at first, but after tasting it, I was completely obsessed with this Yatsuhashi.

It’s a cleaner sweetness or a gentle taste than other Yatsuhashi, and this simplicity is irresistible deliciousness. I’ll finish eating as soon as I’m skinny.

Yatsuhashi of “Original Yatsuhashi” continues to stubbornly protect the old-fashioned materials and manufacturing methods. The raw materials of Yatsuhashi are rice flour (domestic), sugar, soybean flour (soybeans), enzymes, and water Nikki.

It’s hard to get to Kiyomizu-dera Temple, so if you want to buy it nearby, it’s also in the Shinkyogoku shopping street. But maybe because the holidays are indefinite, I went there twice and couldn’t buy it even once (crying) Why ~.

京菓子司 末富のお菓子 Kyo Kashitsukasa Suetomi’s sweets

“The world of dreams and fun” is the origin of making sweets from Suetomi’s first generation, and Suetomi’s sweets are delicate, but they are full of cuteness and fun. My favorite is a koban-shaped rice cracker called Ryoban. It’s interesting to make you feel like an old-fashioned samurai.

In addition to the main store, which is about a 5-minute walk from Gojo Station on the Karasuma Line, there are stores in the Japanese confectionery section on the first basement floor of JR Kyoto Isetan or Kyoto Takashimaya. Other prefectures are located in Takashimaya, Osaka, Nihonbashi, Shinjuku, Yokohama, and Nagoya.

Have you ever been to Japan?

Ayumi and Mark are having a conversation about their trip to Japan. We are glad it will be helpful for all those who want to travel somewhere.

Ayumi: Mark, have you ever been to Japan?

Mark: Yes, I actually visited Japan a few years ago and one of my favorite places was Nara.

Ayumi: Nara? What’s so special about it?

Mark: Well, Nara is famous for its temples and shrines, but what really stood out to me were the deer. They are everywhere in Nara Park and are considered to be sacred animals.

Ayumi: Really? What makes them sacred?

Mark: According to legend, a god was said to have ridden into Nara on the back of a white deer, so the deer are considered to be messengers of the gods. That’s why they are treated with such respect and are free to roam around the park.

Ayumi: That’s amazing. What’s it like to be around so many deer?

Mark: It’s really a unique experience. The deer are used to people and will often approach you looking for food. You can buy special crackers to feed them and they will bow to you before accepting the crackers.

Ayumi: Bow to you? That’s so cute! Is it safe to be around them?

Mark: Yes, they are very gentle and won’t hurt you as long as you treat them with respect. However, it’s important to be careful not to provoke them or get too close to their antlers.

Ayumi: I see. What other things can you do in Nara?

Mark: In addition to the deer, there are also several beautiful temples and shrines to visit, including Todaiji Temple which houses a giant Buddha statue. The park itself is also really beautiful and a great place to relax and enjoy nature.

Ayumi: That sounds like an amazing trip. I’ll definitely have to add Nara to my bucket list. Thanks for sharing your experience with us, Mark!

Mark: No problem, Ayumi. I highly recommend visiting Nara and experiencing the magic of the deer for yourself!

Nara Park, which is generally understood, spans a vast area of 660 hectares and is magnificent around Kasuga Taisha Shrine, Kofukuji Temple, Todaiji Temple, National Museum, Shosoin, etc., which house valuable historical and cultural heritage. The rich natural beauty of the green harmonizes with Nara Park, which is also known as a unique historical park.
Nara Park, which is represented by the temple tower that shines in the trees, the lawn that sprouts in young grass, the atmosphere of playing with a flock of deer, and the “Big Buddha, Greenery, and Deer,” is also the face of the ancient city of Nara.
